Book Club, &amp issue 009.

Okay, explain to me: why bother? It's not going to promote contributions (unless you count the inevitable circlejerk pieces that'll arise from the cabal of editors), and while I think a distributed effort is okay (which it has been to some extent up until now), injecting off-site criticism into mainline &amp seems like a mistake to me--it stops being about /lit/ and instead becomes about the taste of a small group. If people want to discuss their own work with each other that's cool as a thing separate from &amp, but they shouldn't be put in charge of what makes it into the magazine.

If editor fucking croaks then someone else can become editor--we don't need a whole separate forum for that. Yes, it's a lot of work, but if nobody can muster that then let the project die.

In terms of the best-of, I feel uneasy about the development of personalities surrounding it. I think things so far have been impartial enough, but if this were a regular issue it could quickly become about people rather than their work. I want the picture I have of contributors to be formed by what they write, not their forum personality. I think things are treading a fine line--I want the names to fade back into the usual obscurity once this is done.

>try it once
Trying it would be a turning point for this whole endeavour, and I don't think it's something you can easily undo. Whatever real function you see in a Discord is already accomplished by a few emails, so why not leave it at that?

And, again, there's not enough material in the first place for there to be any filtering. You're putting the cart before the horse. And it's a stupid cart.
