The covid hysteria really opened my eyes to this. I already had a pretty negative view of human nature, but the tyranny and people's reaction to it really shattered any illusions I had left about people and how they value their autonomy. What bothered me wasn't the government being tyrannical, I expected that. It wasn't even that people would bow to the tyranny, because I understand that. What was really shocking was how quickly people jumped at the chance to become mini-tyrants themselves,the IT GOES OVER THE NOSE crowd, and how they basically begged the government to become more tyrannical and take away more of their rights, all over the common fucking cold.
