People who are unsatisfied about their life turn to ideology -whether that be politics, religion, whatever- as a means of coping. They subjugate their own personhood to some framework in which their own inability to satisfactorily act in the world is justified.
I think you see this very clearly with the whole 'degeneracy' obsession poltards seem to have, to use an example related to 4chan. I obviously don't have the statistics on hand, but I doubt your average poltard is a sociable, sexually active adolescent. 'Degeneracy' then is a way of devaluing the very things they never got to experience -friendships, intimate relationships, positive socialization with peers, etc. while framing that inability as something positive or beneficial.
Many more such examples are found in all walks of life.
