Is it just me or is written fiction kind of dour in comparison to other mediums.
You'd think there would be more creativity since there is no barriers beyond the author's imagination, yet everything seems to blend together.

I want to find something that has creatively suspenseful scenarios, i don't care about literary merit . just be compelling. I thought webfiction would be an exciting format to delve into. but it's not, everything is just creatively bankrupt. with the peak being shit like Worm where a third of it is teenage relationship drama.

Why do people find it so difficult to find something similar to something like JOJO in terms of creative suspense scenarios with characters using their ingenuity and absurd abilities? or Hunter X Hunter with the intricate plotting of its current arc. I always assumed that written fiction would far surpass this stuff yet when I actually delve into it... it's really disappointing. am I doing something wrong here? am I looking in the wrong places?
