>Of course, DFW was a relatively coddled person, but he knew that.

This. From Good Old Neon, arguably his most autobiographical work and probably my favorite:

>I didn’t want to seem like just another whining, self-absorbed yuppie, even though I think even then I was on some level conscious that that’s all I really was, deep down.

David Foster Wallace

I've made effort posts drawing the similarities before but I unironically think he is, or was, to the many lost young men today what DFW was to the college-aged yuppies of the 90s who came into academia all starry-eyed and left feeling alienated. Of course DFW wouldn't fit the zoomer zeitgeist and board culture of today - just as Peterson's message wouldn't resonate back then, but their life paths still take very similar paths. Including becoming internet memes who aren't taken seriously and are mocked for their personal struggles (see >>19512320 and replace drug addict with a rope joke)
At least Peterson has recovered. Poor Dave was too good for this world.

Does anyone here have the copypasta about DFW's infamous interview?

I feel like /lit/ is full of zoomers who haven't actually read any DFW, so if anyone wants to read some of his shorter work here is his article on cruise ships, one of my favorites.

And here is his less funny, but more poignant article about TV.

Because they are soul serfs, using escapism to ignore their empty existence in an easy way rather than confronting themselves with a search for meaning that may require hard work
>contains explicit violence or gore.
Plenty of man children love violence and gore, it’s a 14 year old’s idea of maturity which is why it appeals to them, not that violence and gore is bad but it’s often misused, like sex

Autistic faggots who only read non-fiction are all soulless like Sam Harris, but you have to read non-fiction as well as fiction to gather a full perspective from different angles
Getting defensive because OP criticised genre-fiction and children’s media outs you as a bugman
