Spengler’s Iron Law of History: stick around long enough, and you turn into a theme park.

Been reading Way of Kings by Sanderson. I knew he was known for having thoroughly mediocre prose, but damn. There's almost no artistry here at all, and there's just long ass blocks where he's telling and telling and telling about shit. He really feels like the ur example of modern epic fantasy. Everything about it, from long blocks of self-indulgent text full of nonsense words to explanations of magic systems with almost no artistry whatsoever, it really feels like he'd be more at home working in videogames or something. In lieu of anything else to read, and because I'm morbidly curious, I'll probably keep going. Still, it's no wonder anons here are so depressed about the current state of fantasy when he's not just, like, a C lister but THE HOTTEST SHIT in the industry.
