Is it any good? A local book club is reading this, and some people who've already read it won't shut the hell up about it. Having read the publisher's description, I'm not terribly interested and wonder if I should be.

You might want to try Wheel of Time or A Song of Ice and Fire if you like really long series. For a standalone book, I'd recommend Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell (stick with it - the first few chapters of the book are tedious even by Tolkien's standards but it really picks up after that). For urban fantasy try American Gods or The Dresden Files.

just bought this... I saw it mentioned here and the description made it sound like the greatest fantasy shit since LOTR... did I made the right choice... is it good?
