Go on welfare, get a cheap place to live, spend your time loafing about and reading and writing a bit.

The literary life is a term coined to refer to a certain languid bohemianism that differs itself from the common slacker by having engaging with literature in some form as one of its more defining activities. The literary life is not per definition the life of the (successful) author. In fact a lot of authors can't into the literary life at all. They're just productively middle class and write for a living. The literary life pertains to figures like Baudelaire, Rimbaud and Burroughs for example, people of both leisure and letters. But it just as well refers to people who write nothing at all and just have an affinity for literature and are content reading at ease.
