Man is this book ever boring. I got to page 25 or something after she ditches the party to hang out with that guy that her friend she was out with for the night took her friend and she just fell asleep on the floor. Fucking, do I just suck at reading or something? I literally can't will myself to read another paragraph of this book, I just can't do it.

Hey /lit/. I'll be starting my summer reading of with Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar. I've decided she's a writer I'd like to spend time on studying/researching independently this summer because of how much her work interests me. Any thoughts on Plath? Praise? Criticism? What am I getting into if anything substantial?

ITT: Good books you aren't allowed to like on /lit/

just finished this last night. honestly i don't know how to feel. for the first half I was really not into it and it felt very ~teen feelings~ like perks of being a wallflower or something. but after thinking about it there was a lot to like, I just felt like some of her prose felt so cliched and dull, like some similies she used were good but a lot felt very on the nose and childish. discuss

What do you guys think of Sylvia Plath? i havent read any of her poetry but just started reading the bell jar but am not terribly impressed. its getting more interesting as she is getting more manic, is her poetry significantly better than her novel?

utter tripe. if she hadn't killed herself IRL then this book would've been totally forgotten about, and it should've.
