Where did the idea of the Holy Spirit come from? It’s not a concept in Judaism so did the Christians just invent it?

I was an atheist for many years and believed like most do that materialism is somehow a default position that is devoid of axioms and assumptions. All the exposure I'd had to non-materialist thought consisted either of New Age woo that was absolutely meaningless, or Creationist rejection of obvious and easily verifiable facts.
Then I met someone who introduced me to the Problem of Universals, and from there I began to seriously analyse my own beliefs and discovered that they were founded on a massive pile of unfounded and irrational assumptions and circular reasoning, just as ridiculous as those I'd been mocking. Now I'm a Platonist, leaning to the Iamblichean-Proclean side.

What books or authors can you recommend me about greek mysticism? By that I mean greek speculations about the soul, the demiurge, etc .

Of course I read Plato. I was thinking of something that will introduce me to lesser known schools. Maybe something about orphism or Pythagoras would be more in the line of what I'm looking for

How do i get into Pre-Socratic philosophy?

Hey all, sorry, I'm looking all over Google, and TV Tropes for this alternate history novel I remember hearing about years ago. Forgive me for not remembering details, I believe it was a French novel written some time in the 1800s, about an alternate history where Rome hadn't adopted Christianity as its official religion, and most people are still pagans by the 19th century.

Should Pythagoreanism and Orphism be completely disregarded when it comes to reading about the Presocratics? There are no surviving primary sources about those things.

Also what's a good recommendation about a book to read about the presocratics? It shouldn't be too expensive and include words from the horse's mouth
