>told myself I wasn't going to read another high-strung action-fantasy full of magic battles after finishing the mistborn trilogy
>immediately pick City Of Brass back up because I couldn't find anything to read

Why are the low key fantasy pickings so slim?

>MC was too retarded to live
>couldn't make her any less retarded without changing the plot
>so I made her an even bigger retard who eats food wrappers and bandaids and added a side joke about her mom wrestling while pregnant

Is this how real writing works /sffg/?

Is it? Maybe I'm a bit under-read, but most of the historical hero figures I can think of were legitimate princes/kings or raised by wolves. I suppose that's what happens when the only people who can write down stories they self-insert into are already nobility

The classic examples of farm boy heroes I think of are all more modern examples, people like Luke, Clark or Dorothy.

I mean, I guess Heracles could count, but he didn't become a farm boy until he was an adolescent.
