The Saturnian devil-demiurge (Akio)
And the hidden messiah as the double/hidden essence of akio and the union of all these (the prince who is the younger Akio)

Note in Rosicrucian and Hebrew Kabbalah, the messiah is the sephira of daat which is ever in perfect Union with Saturn/the creative illusionary principle, it is only when Adam and Eve eat the fruit that daat descends into creation and daat the messiah becomes a void, an abyss which corrupts the saturnine zone into a hellish void, literally Hell in Jacob boehme’s work.

The harmonization of all of these spheres and the descent and return of the messiah is what actually redeems the tree by reforming Daat (by all of the fallen being married) and thus raising back, which is what would have been needed to save anthy/akio.

However, Utena didn’t rescue/correct the internal relations of each of the sephiroth, their internal psycho-spiritual dysfunctions remained. She never purified any of them. By the end of the series because she was only interested in herself and in anthy, and she didn’t seek to benefit the world, she and all else failed and she “escapes” but she escapes as an arahant, a world denier. In asian mysticism mystical paths are called “vehicles” this is why they have those vehicle transformations in the anime. Akio and his red car represent the phallic force, his capacity to tell people he can make them as gods. But he is not the true prince. This is why his sword fails at the end.
all in all it’s a great anime and it’s subtle enough that if you didn’t know about Kabbalah or hermeticism or Rosicrucianism you wouldn’t catch it. But it’s also blatant enough (singing about Swedenborgian mysticism of the union of opposites, talking about abrasax, the whole plot being about the redemptive prince and the Rose marriages.

It’s pretty clear.
