Any fiction about innawoods living? Mostly eco-freaks and whatnot. But well written

Why can't Calibre properly format simple PDF (text-only, no images, no fancy formatting) files when converting them to mobi? Is there something specific that needs to be done? I was converting some war gaming rules so I can read them on Kindle and it basically cuts in the middle of paragraph at random and transfers to another row etc.

I'm trying to make bilingual texts to learn foreign language(s) faster. Basically my intention is to have two columns per page, left one would be in foreign language and the right one in English. However, in Word, if I start pasting the text in left column it goes down to the end of the page and then fills up the right one. I don't see any option to keep columns separate.

Anyone knows how to do this?

Any good grimdark stuff released in the past few years?
