One of my friends is a teacher and she says that there are many students in grade 11-12 who can barely read or write. They simply cannot put the phone down long enough to concentrate on a book. They're literally incapable of writing more than a short sentence, and some of them aren't even capable of that. They'll answer exam questions with a simple "Yes" or "No".

Maybe Parmenides, there are parts that could come from Nietzsche, but overall I feel the strongest influence is probably something like Voltaire's Candide or Cervantes' Don Quixote.
