> Writing genre fiction is like that and most authors in that field lack academic backgrounds so they can't transcend their style. You need to go back to uni and take a lit course so that you learn other formulas and tropes

> It’s because you have a very poor classical education. You have low familiarity with the breadth and depth of literature and have appreciation only for one particularly type of literature and its aims. In short, you’ve been conned into thinking you received a real education when did you not, and unfortunately, nobody tried to give you one. That last part doesn’t even really matter because almost nobody has one themselves. With the diagnosis out of the way, I would prescribe a steady dose of reading classic literature.

> Because they expect you to already know the classics. The teachers know them. They don't want to read the same shit over and over again because not much new can be learned from it. So they put new literature in their courses because it's what they want to read and gain insight into because maybe they're even working on papers about these texts.

> We should just let the great directors adapt all the books and quit wasting time reading. It's inferior every time to the film version if it's done correctly by a good and competent director. I never, ever, ever, want to the read the fucking book again if I can just watch the movie that's just as good or even better in most cases. The only people who disagree are posturing pseuds who want to feel intellectual. It's like those faggots who post pictures of themselves using typewriters and wearing tweeds
