I don't know who Steven Pinker is, just a tourist from /int/ using the /lit/ sticky resources
the importance of linguistics is the same as the importance of psychology int he way that its an attempt to understand the human brain and secret meaning of words instead of actions, it's basically an autists attempt to understand things they cant naturally understand, things a normal human being naturally understands. it only has purpose in places where the CIA or other intelligence agencies are trying to detect lies or deception
that being said, I am autistic and schizophrenic and along with studying around 8 languages in rotation (currently Japanese and ASL), I also study psychology, body language, and linguistics

>LOTR real
Well, if Sumerian (Gilamesh, Ninerta), Atlantean, Dagon and Nummo mythology describe extreme human antiquity and contact with Ayys, no reason why Hobbits and Orcs don't approximate something like that.

If cosmologically? Sauron's not even the final boss (Morgoth), and you get into a standard gnostic structure, and Cosmic War models of high civilizations on other planets come into play.

They're pretty dank. Think LOTR for the Skaven in Warhammer (except with other rodents as well), and there you go. Owls of Gahool is kind of similar, but more youth-side of Youth Fiction (film was amusing/good CGI for a western.)

I have a dilemma, bros. I've starting working on a literary fiction novel that features multiple characters with different accents. Each character has their own unique syntax, diction, punctuation, and so on.

Problem is, these characters interact with one another, so you might hear Character B talk through Character A's POV and vice versa. Here's a dumb made-up example of what the same line would look like if presented by both characters:

>A: He yelled after the guy, Jus' you wait, motherfugger! Jus' wait until I get my hands on yo' shitpostin' ass!
>B: He yelled after the guy, "Just you wait, motherfucker! Just you wait until I get my hands on your shitposting ass!"
B uses quotation marks while A doesn't, and B spells words properly while A doesn't.

So, if A is meeting B in a scene, should B's words be spelled correctly or not? Would switching back and forth be too jarring to the reader? Should I scrap this concept entirely? I know it seems gimmicky but I truly believe it adds a lot to the characters.

>can't start writing my short story because I don't have validation as an author
>can't get validation as an author because I haven't published a short story

This is hell. If I could just get published, I could actually focus on writing a good story and not worrying if it's "publishable" or not. If I could get past this roadblock then I could actually produce the shit I want to produce with confidence.

Feels bad, lads. I know they're inevitable, but it feels really bad.
