I was thinking about something more along the lines of organized resistance to the various supernatural and dare I say Lovecraftian threats (instead of the usual hysteric individuals) but sci-fi thrillers are also cool.
I'll check out the Cormac series.
I actually did stumble upon on the first book in the Joe Ledger series, Patient Zero, back when I was on a zombie binge but it didn't really catch my attention. I'll give it a try. A recommendation here is worth more than a hundred Goodreads reviews.
I did read the first book Monster Hunter International by Correia and while I really wanted to like it (with the whole free market will triumph over the Mythos) it fell flat. Way too many elements that simply do not belong and not good enough writing to tie them all together.
I still haven't find anything that approaches that feeling of dread that The Colder War by Stross invokes.
Thank you for all recommendations.
