Should we start calling out ESL-shaming? I'm embarrassed of my English skills. I think I have a good grasp of grammar and I know a fair share of vocabulary but my syntax is terrible and I often form convoluted sentences. People have made fun of me many times during internet discussions and I have trouble conveying my point because they think I'm a teenager due to my poor English skills. It's not my fault that I was born in Eastern Europe and my native language has a structure totally dissimilar from that of English but I still want to participate in discussions on equal terms with other people. Why do native English speakers have to be so mean towards us ESLs? Why is making fun of black people because of their vernacular dialect considered racist but making fun of Slavs, Arabs, Asians and other people who struggle with English not? It seems to me that anti-ESL-shaming movement is the logical conclusion of the general anti-shaming tendency in the modern West. But until that happens are there any books that will help me improve my English?

I have an idea but for a good short novel. I have developed a story in my mind with all sorts of details, and I know what I want to do with it.

However, I start writing and I just don't like it. It looks terrible to me. How the fuck should I go about this?
