>write the most influential essay ever on Beowulf
>give extremely popular public readings of the same poem, which you open with a manly HWAET
>mentor countless students in their own studies of medieval English literature

Where can I see the curriculums universities like Oxford and Cambridge were using for humanities subjects before the 60s?

Specifically I want to see Oxford's English curriculum between 1930 and 1960, apparently Tolkien and CS Lewis and other guys got together and in 1931 changed it and threw a lot of medieval literature and philology in there. But any Pre-60s list of books would be cool (I mean textbooks not the source material)

Please tell me someone has revised these novels to remedy Tolkien's feeble grasp on English punctuation.

I’ve actually never read anything by Tolkien. Should I? What do you like about his novels?

As you probably know, /lit/, J.R.R. Tolkien has written a novel. Yes, J.R.R. Tolkien. The professor. The man who writes to give a history to his languages. The don who declaims Beowulf from memory, then shouts at his parish priest in Latin, his darling Luthien beside him, and scribbles a hundred lines of alliterative verse on the deeds of the Elder Days.

You all know him.

That said, how does it make you feel that Tolkien is a published author and you are not? How does it make you feel that he is able to get his book out there, regardless of whether it's a great piece of lit or not, and you are not?

>inb4 ghostwritten
Even if it was, someone who's good enough to render something publishable has settled for doing just that, secretly writing for an Oxford medievalist and not getting his/her own name on the cover of that book. How does it make you feel that someone good enough to write even a mediocre book has to settle for being the ghostwriter of medievalist?

Tolkien was a great writer, his mastery of the english language alone attests to that.
He was a shit Novelist though.
