I tend to believe that the share of /lit/izens with significant psychiatric conditions skews markedly higher than the general public, myself included. If you look to commit to the cloistered life as a cope for mental illness, (1) you wouldn’t last long, (2) they would know and (3) they would likely bar your entry for it.

Now if you wanna argue that that is why St. Anthony himself became a monastic (supernatural persecutory delusions/delusions of spiritual grandeur/audio-visual hallucinations) then read pic related and shirk off the cenobitic inclination for good.
