A cranky, cynical, sarcastic bastard with a sharp, scathing wit seems like he’d be right up our alley. I enjoy pretty much his entire corpus, with A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court being one of my faves. Thoughts?

> After breakfast they went whooping and prancing out on the bar, and chased each other round and round, shedding clothes as they went, until they were naked, and then continued the frolic far away up the shoal water of the bar, against the stiff current, which latter tripped their legs from under them from time to time and greatly increased the fun. And now and then they stooped in a group and splashed water in each other’s faces with their palms, gradually approaching each other, with averted faces to avoid the strangling sprays, and finally gripping and struggling till the best man ducked his neighbor, and then they all went under in a tangle of white legs and arms and came up blowing, sputtering, laughing, and gasping for breath at one and the same time.

Many regard him as the 'Father of Literature'. What does /lit/ think of him?

cousins johnny baptist and jesus christ were just a couple of drunks who wrote, and wrote, and wrote, like all of us here at /lit/ do. but they had to hit the road with their works, 'selling' them door to door. they lived off of their readers, who paid to copy their writings.

i see them as cousins tom sawyer and huckleberry finn, adding to their works many larping letters, as proof of authenticity, during their journeys which spanned a century. johnny baptist and jesus christ died at patmos in ninety and six, and were once buried there.

amateur treasure hunters discovered and unearthed both of their graves on patmos, in nineteen ninety and six. they looted those original manuscripts which were buried together with them, both nearly identical sets, upon which they had based all of their 'sales'.

Why is he so overrated? Bloom ranked him alongside Melville. I feel like I’m being gaslit.

Why does he use the n-word so much? Perhaps more importantly, why do teachers feel the need to use this clearly outdated book?
