I read Chandler's "the swimmer" about 7 or so months ago but haven't returned to him though i really ought to as i seem to remember liking what i read of it (quickly for an assignment). To be honest, and perhaps the 'angular' monicker is something i've picked up in reading gaddis' later novels in the last month (though i'd never want to make the blasphemous comparison).

fuck, man. making me go get my norton anthology.

and by way of caveat, i'm not going to try to defend the hastiness of that particular poem; it really is lacking in the detail &c. my squab' with your original critique is that it seems you were asking something of it which it did not necessarily lack, though perhaps this whole confusion is over the hastiness of that original critique. as far as frenetically and sprawlingly shifting poetry, i don't think that necessarily would contribute to a detriment of any particular series of verse, insomuch as it is well done. That is though, perhaps a general values and tastes difference between the two of us. Do feel free to point out, in my poems, some similar flaws so that I may understand it as more than just a small rash of bad verse.

try "medusa" by Plath.

pretty expansive imagery and allusion.

thanks again for enduring my insufferably attitude. clarity's what i'm after, that's all.

(pause, Jº leans further forward and looks toward the counter. He is now at the point where one might imagine any further leaning forward might find him falling onto the floor.) "
Phone vibrates on table, making the half-full cup of now full coffee shudder and also vibrate with concentric circles in the deep black shine of the coffee. Blue light reflects off of the surface, though the substance of it still visibly brown-black. This light moves with the waves, refracting and bouncing off of them. Phone and coffee vibrate again.
"Hello." His voice is strained down into a low volume. Flegm scratches through at the top of his voicebox. Inaudible noise from the other end of the phone.
"No, right— so I'm just now getting to that. What was it specifically— the process I mean?"
More inaudible noise.
"Mmm yeah I think— right. No, I think I can do that."
Inaudible noise continues.
"No but see the problem is that I really have no desire to do things which I don't really want to do. So I just end up stalling."
Pauses
"No but don't worry about it. I'll— right yeah I'll do it all eventually."
Holds mobile phone to his left ear with his left hand and puts a long em dash at the end of his body of words in the notebook, indicating either a stop or non-continuance.
"Just doing some reading— knocking out a chunk of reading, you know."
