So you're saying the purpose of philosophy is to enjoy your life?

Just admit it right now, fiction is the most pleb thing that anyone can read. It does not increase ones knowledge, it does not increase ones wisdom, unless it happens to accidentally contain such things. The reason I say accident is because philosophy and non-fiction are for people who truly want to expand and change their perspective, while fiction is just for people who want to have "fun".

It's like playing a video game, or watching a movie. The only way to truly educate oneself in a positive, expansive way, is to read theory, philosophy, and informative books.

My attention is extremely fucked by youtube, facebook, instagram, snapchat, and the internet in general. On my days off it's the first thing I do and I'm trying to establish a reading habit at night as well as journaling but I get so bored by books. I used to really enjoy reading as a kid. I know that I would much rather spend my days off reading and relaxing but I find myself endlessly scrolling through instagram or youtube or on here.

It feels like a combination of a heightened perceived effort to start (i think it'll be difficult to get started and i know it's going to take me a while to get immersed as it always does) and a false negative projection that i am bored by books (i think i enjoy them less than i do when i actually end up getting into them). Has anyone been through this before, and recovered from it? Any suggestions for getting back into reading? I can devour nonfiction in like a day or two but I'm trying to get into fiction.

Do you think this dude's legit? Has he really read Being and Time, the Phenomenology of Spirit, In Search of Lost Time, Ulysses, and 800 other extremely difficult canonical works by the time he's 20? You'd have to do at least 80 books a year from the time you're 10, or 40 books a year from the time you're 1 to get this much. If from the time you're 10 it would be a book every 4.5 days. Did this dude read fucking Ulysses in 4.5 days, or does he spend a week on these big books and just blow through a stack of small books in one sitting? How the fuck could this even be possible?
