Just finished this, God what a book. Ordered urth and excited to read it. Plenty of things I must've missed tho. Was baldanders lead to design that 'perfect' humanity described by malrubius? Or what was he trying to achieve? What did Severian see in that mirror? I always theorized it to be an angel, but I have no real proof. Also, on the mirrors, since I didn't fully grasp exactly what they did. I assume the mirror lead to the corridors of time, allowing Hethor and Jonas to time travel and fetch creatures from other universes etc. but I'm not sure. Any nice anon who can spoonfeed my smooth brain?

I haven/t read any of this author but I was looking for a fantasy saga to start after finishing Dune and I found this one in some lists and was drawn by the dark fantasy aesthetic of the artwork and a few positive reviews I read.
Berserk and Dark Souls are the only dark fantasy media I know desu but I cannot shut up about them. Is this a good place to continue exploring this sub-genre?

Get this: he describes an astronaut, but doesn't tell you it's an astronaut.
Bravo

I just finished this, questions:
How did Severian survive the Avern battle? Did he Claw himself back to life? Severian later thinks that the Claw actually does nothing and the healing powers were always within him, so is he just invincible, or?
And why exactly did Agia's husband go beserk and start columbining the crowd after he beat Severian? Did he freak out because Severian survived?

What exactly was up with the botanic gardens? It's some Hierodule time travel tech? The jungle section they went into was like 1950s Africa/The Amazon or some shit right?

Also in one of the final chapters Severian implies Hildegrin has some connection to the other Severian pulling strings from the outside corridors of time universe, what was up with that? I don't really remember Hildegrin's interactions other then when they bump into him in the gardens and he denies his identity.
