Fuck you snobs for telling me this guy isn't "worth" reading. He's hilarious. Each scene is highly relatable has me cracking up. Why does it matter if he doesn't write autistically and make 10,000 literary allusions like James Joyce? It's ENJOYABLE to read. It's a shame you guys don't read for enjoyment, you're missing out.

I've never really been that interested in reading. But I just read Ham on Rye, and I loved it. Of course I'm going to read his other works, but are there any other authors I should look into?

A friend of mine suggested I look into Hunter S. Thompson. Anyone else I should check out?

Buko got me into literature. He was the first writer to get me excited about reading and writing. He made me realize that literature doesn't have to be boring (all I had read before Buko was Russian classics that bored me to death because I couldn't understand them at all). Although I don't think he's the greatest writer ever anymore, I still love him, probably out of nostalgia.

there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too tough for him,
I say, stay in there, I'm not going
to let anybody see
you.
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I pour whiskey on him and inhale
cigarette smoke
and the whores and the bartenders
and the grocery clerks
never know that
he's
in there.

there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too tough for him,
I say,
stay down, do you want to mess
me up?
you want to screw up the
works?
you want to blow my book sales in
Europe?
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too clever, I only let him out
at night sometimes
when everybody's asleep.
I say, I know that you're there,
so don't be
sad.
then I put him back,
but he's singing a little
in there, I haven't quite let him
die
and we sleep together like
that
with our
secret pact
and it's nice enough to
make a man
weep, but I don't
weep, do
you?

I think /lit/'s favorite writer knew exactly what I like about smoking:
"I often wonder about the hours when a man sits alone, watching the smoke of a cigarette, thinking. I wonder what great things have come from such hours. When a man thinks, there is a spot of fire alive in his mind—and it is proper that he should have the burning point of a cigarette as his one expression.”

Worst writer in history. Avoid at all costs unless you are a horny fat alcoholic with a limited vocabulary.

His poems are pathetic. A child could write more coherently.

hey /lit/ I have always enjoyed books but I never really liked poetry would. Would Bukowski be a good place to start?

Sup, slowest board after /fa/. What do you think of the dirty old man.

I like the novels mostly - it's like the Motorhead of writing - same ol' bullshit but done so well you keep coming for more.

Short stories are kinda hit/miss but still fine.

Poems are awesome but with lots of filler.
