You seem like the kind of person who would get triggered by this image.

Studying the history and practice of theology is one thing, but the assumptions that lie behind studying God are too great and too emotional for me to accord that the respect and brainspace that the term, "intellectual," usually connotes.

Happy now?

I'm a much more flexible and humane person since I left the church. I've found that trying to live in a way that accounts for the vagaries of my own mind and of other people is far more satisfying than puzzling over Jewish laws that Jews have long-since discarded because they're smart. Sometimes I wish humanity could all take this journey with me, but at others I'm glad the church is there to keep the lower classes from acting like total animals.

I really can't stand it. I think, "objectivity," and "rationality," really have become the fetishes of the middle and lower classes in the absence of religion but most people don't have the education or objectivity to understand the limits of those things and identify where they do and don't apply, so calling someone's objectivity into question is just a way to say they're wrong and a poopy-face.
