With Miaki his novels are kinda Notes from Underground with magical realism. His formula is pretty simple, we have a young adult male main character who is self aware and unhappy with his life, he gets involved with whatever the shtick is for that particular story (Like selling his lifespan for money, or implanting false memories) and then he meets a girl. There is a romance based on their shared unhappiness (in a sorta literally me way lol) and then it ends in a bittersweet way often with a twist. All of it works pretty seamless, and his stories are all genuinely emotional and just flow quite well. The advantage here is that it is all quite small scale and the emotions are very personal so we wouldn't run into the issues of writing a longer, "proper" story, we would just write something emotional about two characters and I'm sure some faggot on 4chan has similar experiences and feelings to pour into something bittersweet.
