Mr. Hume said this book was by far his greatest philosophical AND literary achievement. Why then does everyone ignore it? And those who do read it seem to dislike it.

You hear this kind of stuff often:
>Well, this was disappointing. I say this because Hume’s first Enquiry was brilliant, unforgettably so. There, we see Hume as one of the most subtle, most penetrating, and most profound thinkers in Western history. Here we see him don the hat of a common moralist.

Did people just think Hume was le epic nihilist that believed everything is permissible and subjective? Or is this the image they tried so hard to create of him so they hate having to confront the real Hume? Is it like they lost an ally that oursmarts them so he becomes an enemy they want to avoid?

Someone explain to me Hume's morality. If it's just based on le feels, how is it morality? It's just personal preference.

>...morality is determined by sentiment. It defines virtue to be whatever mental action or quality gives to a spectator the pleasing sentiment of approbation; and vice the contrary.
So was Hume just a coomer?
