Nah, the carousel horse paperback is the most kino.

For me it's holden's commentary about the guy's way of addressing a christmas tree. Not generally funny but this part got me laughing out loud.

1. What was the main meaning of message of it?
2. What was the significance of the carousel scene at the end?
3. What was with that teacher touching Holden’s head while Holden was sleeping? That seemed really weird, but I had thought the teacher seemed like a really good guy up until that point.

Did Salinger predicted the rise of alt right incels?

why many people think that this book is unfilmable or less marketable? when movies with character study are really popular among cinema goers? like Taxi Driver, Peeping Tom or Psycho.

I hated this book and loved Of Mice and Men.

Anyone who doesn't like this book is normie scum. Whenever someone says they hate Holden, they are saying that they hate any person who relates to him. They are all scumbags.

Starting with the most obvious example. If this was written today, it would easily pass for some emo or /r9k/ teenager's ramblings.

I've just read it for the first time and it's such an ordinary novel... I think I'd have enjoyed it better if I read it when I was a teenager. Otherwise than that, I cannot understand all the hype on it.

I like Catcher in The Rye the best, but A Perfect Day For Bananafish is also good, even though I don't understand it.

I'm kind of new to books and wanted to know how you guys feel about translations. I'm trying to decide whether I want to read picture related and other books in English or my native language, German. I don't actually think my English is significantly better than my mother tongue, but I might be missing some advanced vocabulary. How much of the prose is important to works like Gatsby?

Bottom line I'd also appreciate some recs for modern pieces.

I just re-read this book and I know it's been discussed to death, but if /lit/ wants to humor me for a minute, I'd be flattered.

1. I first read this book when they made me in High School, many years ago, and I straight up missed the point because I was so young that I couldn't see any flaws at all in how Holden was behaving. I saw where he supposedly behaved badly of course because they're written very plainly, but I related to Holden to such an extent that people's critiques seemed to me probably the way they would have seemed to him- nosy phonies complaining about other people's lives.

tl;dr is it impossible to understand Holden when you basically ARE Holden? Is that the point after all?

2. Is the joke here that people who complain about this book often end up sounding like Holden when he complains about pretty much anything?

Is this book actually good? What's up with all the fuzz around it? Between Orwell, Huxley, Poe, Kafka, Joyce, Wylde, Conrad, etc, is this still a book worth reading?
