A community's "moral ... integrity" is inseparable from how it treats individual rights. Its not a question of community's moral integrity vs protection of individual rights, they are exchangeable terms.

Miscellaneous addenda:

(1) "What separates me from a sodomite is nothing but environment" How can you be so content in contending this? What exists that isn't the result of an interplay of environment and instinct? - to the point where maintaining a difference between the two terms becomes unmanageable (really we are talking about two different time-frames [long term, short term]).

(2) Sodomy isn't "such a transgression" a priori, there is nothing intrinsic to sodomy that it is perverse. Probably it has a particular fixation for you because of both (a) your personal idiosyncrasies and (2) the non-binary and forever calculating nature of sexuality which necessitates a repression if power is to be exercised (itself impotence, but nonetheless the release of energy which comes from the impotent anger against impotence - the attempted negation)

(3) Shared humanity is a spook - or rather its a level of abstraction you have chosen, a physical-scale you've decided upon between everything being One and everything being difference - but its a motivated one (as evidenced by your distancing gays from humans)
