I broke my foot so I want to take up a hobby instead of wasting a month playing video games and internet stuff, and I thought I might be able to get into reading. My problem has always been that books are so boring. Characters have stupid, pointless problems and it makes it hard to care about anyone. Have I just been reading bad books? Is there a good starting place for someone like me? Do you recommend reading a physical book over reading a pdf?

I've only read Lot 49 and M&D, but I enjoyed them more than the 270pages of GR that I've read so far.
Had to stop GR numerous times already, because at many points I'm enjoying it, but at others it's becoming so long-winded and drawn out it's annoying.

Love fantasy, but actually didn't care for this series
read the first two books and it didn't grab me enough to want to pursue the rest of them.
I can see why people would enjoy it, but this series just didn't do it for me.
