Here's another question: why does every cult in the West try to hitch their wagon to Christ's star? Even the Heaven's Gate people had a weird take on Jesus.

It's like, if you're coming up with your own weird theology that's a total departure, why do you need to talk about Jesus at all? Why not stick to your own canon? I think Scientology is the only cult that dismisses Christ outright. Everyone else is like "oh sure he's super holy BUT..."
