Oh my God... Is this book ever going to get interesting? Talk about a sleep inducing piece of shit. I don't get what all the hype is about.

Just bought pic related. I have never been on this board before so I don't know /lit/s opinion of it. Is The Road any good?

Hey guys, I just read the road. What did you think of it?
and did you cry at the end?

Am I just a giant retard or does this book constantly teeter between having poetic, beautifully written prose and prose that just does not make any fucking sense?

For example:

"He took great marching steps into the nothingness, counting them against his return. Eyes closed, arms oaring. Upright to what? Something nameless in the night, lode or matrix. To which he and the stars were common satellite. Like the great pendulum in its rotunda scribing through the long day movements of the universe of which you may say it knows nothing and yet know it must."

I'm going to give Mr. McCarthy the benefit of the doubt and just assume that I'm an illiterate mongoloid. So can someone explain to me what 90% of that was even supposed to mean?

So I'm reading pic related and I'm wondering what's the deal with the lack of punctuation? I came up against it in 'No Country for Old Men' and just assumed it was discrete to that book for some reason.

I was told by someone McCarthy does it because punctuation 'gets in the way' or some shit. However, if that's the case, why does he not just do away with all punctuation. If anything it's distracting as hell. I mean, what's the point in leaving apostrophes out of words like 'don't and 'won't' but then leaving them in other words?

I like his writing but it does seem like some grade A faggotry.

If you had to choose 10 key moments from "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy, what would they be?
I've just started reading the book because today was the first day I was able to get it, but my English teacher assigned us this question for tomorrow. Help a guy out?
We're focusing on the theme of deprivation, if that helps you to refine your choices.

Hai /lit/,

I've grown really interested in the Tchernobyl incident lately, along with the life of roamers in the Zone around Prypiat. I'm looking for any kind of litterature related to it, preferably fiction, biographies or even light science-fiction.
Do you have any recommandation?

Also, if you happen to know any really good post-apocalyptic novel, that'd be great. I've recently read (and loved) Malevil, The Road, and Homo Disparitus (which is more like a scientific/historic/anticipation essay, I really recommand it, it's great), and I'm looking for more.

Thanks in advance!

It has been too long since I have read a good book. What are some good 'mind fuck' books? Something deep

What does /lit/ think of this novel?

I was quite struck by how depressing it is. It was a quick read but just threw me in to a weird mood for a couple days. Is the movie any different from the book?

Hi /lit/
I'm a really picky reader and I am stuck on what to read next. Novel or graphic novel.

My favorite books are:
The Road, Frankenstein, The LOTR Trilogy, The Walking Dead and Akira (graphic novels).

I'm a huge fan of post apocalypse and I usually only read fiction, but if the book seems promising enough, I wouldn't mind reading non-fiction.

So I'm about a third of the way through this, and it's really getting me down. To the point where I think I might just stop reading it. I'm finding it hard to justify making myself this depressed for the pleasure of reading a good book.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Anyone not wanted to finish a book because it was such a downer? Anyone read through a book no matter how fucking sad it made them because it was just such a good read?

Why should I make myself depressed? Shouldn't I read something to make me feel good?
