Yes, I agree, there is nothing like that when it comes to books.

So I was wondering why The Great Gatsby is such a top literature book? I just finished the book and i thought it was just average. For some odd reason I found this book a bit difficult to put together, I was confused through many parts in the book. Maybe that is why I thought it was average. I don't know why it was a tough read for me, I've read much harder books.

A by a pompous narcissist glorifying narcissistic sociopaths.

Same goes for glorifying Pullman personality types in Rand's work.

Characters with flaws are the most interesting of characters. They help us to understand the ideas of the text, and sometimes help us to understand ourselves.
What does /lit/ think about this in relation to Jay Gatsby, from the Great Gatsby.

In high school we were given an assignment to read and report back on any 10 books of our choice. At the time I hated reading, and I 'randomly' chose The Great Gatsby. I realised a few years later that the name stuck out to me because my teacher had used the party scene for an in-class exercise. Fucking subliminal learning.

I re-read it earlier this year, and it's still my favourite book.

Thoughts?
I found it pretentious, although I believe Douglass' observations hold true to this day and age.

How did this happen to you guys? You were once the last bastion of intelligence in this wasteland of stupidity. What happened here, that you were made as low as the rats you once trod upon?
Also, post the last book you read.

What does /lit/ think of this?

People keep recommending it to me.

Interested in your collective opinion.

Try to guess what this book was renamed in it's first Scandinavian translation.

Answer is in English, but it is equivalent of translation.
The yellow car

Is this book actually good? I know it's required reading in most schools, but I want to know if it's really *good*.

If it is, this book shall be the beginning of my foray into the world of literature and reading.
