What does /lit/ think of this? Should I read it?

I just finished it and I found myself quite moved by how the story unfolded. This is surprising, as I was essentially reading it for its supposed horror aspects. Did you experience something similar when you read it?

pic related, started reading it last night and am enjoying it so far.

Before I started reading, I did a little research, namely into HOW to read it. I was wondering if there was a "trick" to reading/interpreting it, or if I should just enjoy it for what it is: experimental horror fiction. I've found there are two camps: "Treat the book like the house it describes and get lost in all of the intricacies" and "just read the fucking book."

Is there a trick, or should I just decide on my own how far I go into the rabbit hole?

Wow OP, I know that feel. The first time I came to /lit/ ( a few months ago) was when I just finished reading that book and wanted to talk about it.

I got yelled at and I think someone used the phrase "babbies first postmodern book" or something like that. Anyway, fucking great book.

Never been on this board before, but am curious what you think of House of Leaves?

I just finished reading it and I loved it. Such a dense story, and I loved all of the crazy formatting and footnotes.

But I am kind of confused about the ending.

I came in this thread to post this, but you beat me to it. I've been reading it lately and haven't finished it, but man, that fucking structure: footnotes that could be whole chapters by themselves, sidebars running across several pages listing what I'm fairly sure could be every architectural term in existence, footnotes that have footnotes that refer to inset boxes which reveal to have mirrored text on the next page...

That's on top of it being about a guy who discovered an analysis of a documentary filmed by and based on a man who doesn't exist. So many layers of WTF.

I'm about to start reading this.

I bought it a few years ago after a friend recommended it, saying it was great. I never got around to reading it until now.

What am I getting myself into?

What the fuck did I just read? Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but I feel like there are so many unanswered questions.

Also, is Danielewski’s other work worth checking out?

Has anyone read house of leaves before? How is it overall? As scary as people say? I really want to buy it, but I don't want to regret my purchase. I want to be on the edge a lot.
