So I just finished House of Leaves. I le(a)(ft)(ve)(s)(d) it if you know what I mean.

I liked it.

I think the, I think it was the third exploration, was the one that was best done out of all the ones in terms of the book's use of funny layouts. There were like several columns you had to keep track of and I, after a while, made a routine of in which order I read them and how, which kind of made me feel the repitivity of the house on myself, all the while exhausting me the same way it was exhausting the team. Kind of works the same way as that game, Heavy Rain. It's really just a silly thriller, but because you have to do everything the character's do, the feeling of owning them makes what would have been meh or sentimental, really emotional.

Though the best part was in the rescue when Navidson is trying to catch Holloway with his blitz while the doors are closing shut and Reston is trying to shot him. That was pretty fucking intense for a book.

Also, during Navidson's ascension in the fifth exploration, when you get that note sheet, I loved that, because it took me a while to get the melody right, so it kind, I like that when you're taken out of the building action, for example when the main character in The New York Trilogy visits Paul Auster and his family near the end of City of Glass, it adds something, gives meat to the ending's bones, and I feel it really gave the whole end another dimension which was quite cool.

As for the story itself, I liked it. I love that kind of stuff; stuff that really doesn't make any sense. I got a kick out of trying to explain the plot to people when they asked what I was reading and so on. So trés cool and all that.

So, this mofo just came in the mail. I've got several other books I want to read before I tackle this beast.

What should I expect once I finally open it up?

FUCK YOU /lit/. This book was fucking boring, and apart from the post-modern layout gimmick (which doesn't appear until after page 100), nothing happens, the characters are boring as fuck, Truant's story is the worst of them all (I couldn't wait for his footnotes to end) and the numerous quotations are pretentious. Sure, Mark Danielewski is well-read and could write a PhD thesis on whatever he wants but it isn't relevant to the story

Fuck you for overhyping a piece of shit

Have you read it/do you want to? Did you like it? Do you still think about it?

This.
The only interesting parts in the book were about the movie itself.

I posted earlier about if Catcher in the Rye was worth the read or not, so now I return asking about House of Leaves as well.

Have you read it, /lit/? And if so, is it worth it?

im reading house of leaves and while its decent, the whole house is bigger by 1/4 inch on the inside fucking bugs me because it makes no sense

the guy measures from wall to wall on the inside but unless the house was built in retard world, youd have ~4 inches on each side for the wall studs and that gives us a good ~8 inches to play around with

as far as i know they never describe what is on the outside of the house so lets say its oldtimey and has plaster siding, thats at least 1/2 right there.

now i know its meant to be impossible but the fact still stands that mark d danielewski doesnt know shit about how houses are built

Hello, I'm an avid reader, /lit/, and I need some book recommendations, particularly fiction.

My favorite book is House of Leaves. I have been reading too much philosophy and science lately, and have neglected my fiction.

I have read Hemingway, Kerouac, Steinbeck, Salinger, Wilde, Joyce, etc...what am I missing out on? What are some of your favorites? They don't necessarily have to be fiction, that's just where I feel I'm lacking. Thanks guys.

House of Leaves. Read this book.

It is like the epitome of literature. It's very title means "book"

Genre doesn't matter, since you need to read this book. (It's fiction, kind of a psychological thriller kind of book)
