i'm in a bit of a fantasy/scifi phase right now and i've just finished "Dune", which was great. after this i started reading Sanderson's "Mistborn Trilogy" and while the premise is original and interesting, the prose sucks.
now i don't want to sound snobbish or uppity, but this feels like a major downgrade after "Dune", the best part of which, to me at least, was the prose. i don't mean to shit on Sanderson, i've heard really great things about him and i'm curious about his body of work (gonna try tackling Stormlight Archive next); also from what i've heard this is only his 2nd book, so some roughness is to be expected. maybe i just haven't gotten to the good parts yet.
that said, could any of you recommend me books with the quality of writing on par with "Dune", fantasy/scifi preferred? also, before any of you recommend them, i know that there are 5 more books to this saga written by the original author, but
a) Dune itself was quite dense both in terms of ideas and worldbuilding and i want to let that settle in a bit, and
b) I just want to try something new

just read it, Part I>Part III>Part II and the ending felt half-assed. is the rest of the saga (those written by Frank) any good? i felt like the book ended prematurely, am curious what happens next.

So I should only read up to God Emperor and ignore the Brian Herbert stuff?

How bad is the Brian Herbert stuff?

What would have happened in the 6th book? I can't handle the cliffhanger the last one left off at.

you guys lied to me
what the fuck was that last few chapters
everything felt so rushed, after all this buildup to resolve everything in 1,5 chapters.
And i thought that the plot of young harkonnen, imperator and everything would take place in next books, judging by pace of 3/4 of the first book.
setting and whole world were amazing bot book as a whole is clearly overrated, medicore at best. Finale gave me bad aftertaste

I am looking for a good Science Fiction or Fantasy book to read.

Would Dune be worth picking up or will it feel too dated now?

I think we all agree that his son's books aren't canon, right?
Daniel and Marty are obviously not artificial intelligences and the way they are introduced makes no sense if you consider the personalities given to them later in the books of his son.
I am entirely convinced that that little bastard made that shit up, why the fuck would Omnius call them masters? Why would they remind each other that the Masters of the Tleilaxu aren't gods and neither are they themselves?
It's fucking dumb, it doesn't fit and that's not how Herbert wanted to end his series. They are some fucked mutation of face-dancers, maybe just normal ones that soaked up too many memories or come from a weird place created during the scattering but whatever the fuck they are, they aren't thinking machines, then they wouldn't have that connection to the Tleilaxu.

Read the first book. Is it worth to continue with this saga? I've heard that basically the rest of the books are trash.

Recommend me a book that's between Dune and Ghost in the Shell, but far away from Star Wars.

About to finish this book. My question is for anyone whose read the sequels. Are they as good as the first book Dune? I loved it very much even though the bad guys are a little to comically bad but whatever. Great book and I want more.
Or is it maybe a one hit wonder which Frank just expended upon?
