Started reading Moby Dick this week. My plan was to finish it by the end of march. I only got to page 325 so far. (It's 840 pages)

Is it wrong to want to destroy philosophy and science? All of the conclusions that they appear to be heading to are horrifying; they could be the downfall of humanity. We now have neuroscientists and philosophers claiming that there is no self, thoughts are about nothing because they are all matter and matter can't contain "aboutness," some are claiming free will doesn't exist, and that morality does not exist. If these are true, I hope to God they are not, I feel this will be the downfall of humanity — no one wants to live in a world devoid of choice and purpose. I know these ideas are not mainstream within philosophy (most philosophers believe free will, intentionality, and moral realism), but I feel that as time goes on more and more will reach these devastating conclusions. One philosopher who accepts this radical materialism says that if you're troubled by these ideas, you should just take meds — that is absolutely ridiculous and horrifying.
