Rorty and pragmatism are based, although I think it's an oxymoron to be a leftist pragmatist.

So if determinism is the true state of affairs in the world and our experience of freely chosen actions and thoughts is an illusion, then what does it feel like to actually be free? Would our experience be any different than it is now? Is there any literature on this?

what else is a society, but defiance of the old law of gnon? 'the penalty for stupidity is death', but in society, we are prone to take care of our own, the pressures that once existed abate. the dysgenic effect of civilization has a high degree of inevitability, the virtues of civilization often allow it to defeat disparate barbarians, and concordantly these same qualities are also often the seed for its own destruction. the history of human civilization tells a story that it is suited for cultivating all sorts of capital, except for human capital. its a spiral, and the obvious way out would be self-conscious mimicking of the effects of the old pressures in some way. but the cosmic irony here is that to do so would in turn require a more transcendent perspective, capacity for world formation, yet as weve seen, processes of intelligenesis often stop as soon as history starts, the great races were the bare minimum. isint that funny?
