Was Philip k dick a good writer?

Was he schizophrenic? A lot of his stories could be considered from a paranoid schizophrenic's imagination

He seems pretty coherent and stable for a complete schizo to me. Great stories too.

What are his best schizo books other than the Valis trilogy and Ubik?
And what other authors write like him?

Why is contemporary Sci fi so dull and trepid compared to the past

Start with PKD and then read The Book of the New Sun and stop there. Kazuo Ishiguro's works are supossed to be good aswell but I havent read them.
