His mistake is to divide the oedipus complex, where the father acts as an opponent or a rival, from the super-ego, where the father acts as a model to be imitated.

However, it's sort of a lot more intuitive that the son imitates the father's desires, and in this way comes into rivalry and conflict with him. This does away with any need for an incest-patricide desire, and for there to exist an unconscious such that could house this desire, which is essentially the big fake scandal of freudianism and obscures his more interesting ideas
