Like I think it's sort of obviously not an issue of "lack of interest" in existence, as though someone just decided, "well, I can't be arsed to take the 'oath of loyalty to life,' damn I'm tired, guess I'll just kill myself or something." No, it's more like, "well, I'm not happy now, I haven't been happy in years, and as far as I can tell I won't be happy in the years to come, so I'm not sure why I should keep living," complete with hundreds of layers of rationalizations of the form of "well, the world is probably better off without me" and "I'm just a burden to others around me." Interpreting that as a "symbolic insult" and then acting as though that arbitrary interpretation makes the act immeasurably worse is not exactly the height of critical inquiry.
