This novel has been on my list for a while and with all the /lit/ build up I was excited to read it.

I will say from the start I was intrigued. I read through Part 1 quickly but Part 2 was a boring slog. Part 3 and Part 4 were great with the novel coming to a climax at Part 5.

There was a lot of unneeded filler. I'd estimate that at least 50 to 65 pages (I read the English translation) could have been removed with no value lost on the plot or the themes in the novel.

Overall was worthwhile and certainly a novel I will continue to think about. The darkness, cynicism, horror and tones of madness were engaging.

I'll have to read again because I'm sure on a second read so many of the character's paths cross that you don't catch on a first read.

I realy liked 2666 for its subject matter ,its length(being intriguing for 800 or so pages that is) and prose .What other books would you recomend me besides the rest of Bolano?

Can you make a coherent arguments on to why it's such a good novel and why it's your favorite?

Yes, I have read it. It had some enjoyable parts, though which never deserved any more praise rather than being enjoyable and somewhat fitting(2666 felt unfinished) to the whole. Without such arguments I will consider it to be another somewhat obscure book that hipster posers love to praise in order to feel special, in this case a translated book with fancy numbers and recent publishing date.

So that's, like, postcolonialism, huh? And the symbols made Mexico into a real country in the end, right? Pretty cool.
