Book on the same topic, taken in the opposite direction from the work you've posted. Would be good to read to have more of a nuanced view on the subject. Otherwise I would suggest staying away from general history books like the ones in this thread and focus more on specific regions and time periods and find works on that. If you want to get a real understanding avoid any book that pushes a generalized thesis. Good for entry level, but anything beyond that it's detrimental
