So my leg is broken in 3 places about 2 weeks ago and I'm going to be at home at lot for the next few months. I really like to listen to audio books and recently I listened to all 4 books of A Song of Ice and Fire because I remembered /lit/ talking about it a lot and because of a pic I saved from here.

I enjoyed it immensely and was wondering if you guys have any more fantasy recommendations like ASoIaF that would be good to listen to.

pic related: it's the one that I had saved sometime right after /lit/ was started that inspired me to buy the audio books.

Not sure if I'm going to catch hell for this, but whatever. Should I read The Hobbit before LOTR? I've had LOTR lying around for like 2 years and I never got around to it because I wasn't sure if I should read TH first. Also, being that Greek Mythology and Dark Tower got me on a bit of a fantasy binge, is the Song of Fire and Ice series decent?

Which fictional universe would you most want to be banished to, and which fictional universe would you want to avoid at all costs?

Like to visit: The Culture universe from Iain Banks' books sounds so fucking bad ass. You get to be an immortal hedonist who can change your sex for the lulz? Sign the me the fuck up.

AVOID AVOID AVOID: The thought of ending up in 1984 or in the Domination of the Draka makes my skin crawl. I think that it's easy to deal with cartoonish fantasy villains, but very difficult to deal with truly evil humans. They're so much more horrific to me.....probably because I can see the darker side of human nature reflected by their actions.

Who is your favorite writer /lit/? Mine has to be Chekov. His short stories are better than any novel I've ever read, especially if you read them in the original Russian.
