Is it even worth it following with the rest.
I was promised le edgy pedophile pussy slayer cult leader and all i got so far was a simp that gets comatose every 2 chapters by literal whos from whoville.

Basically, they were in the deep shit, man. They were that. They were living in that. They was that. So how the fuck do they go from that, worse than real life, to suddenly using the same semantics as the average Redditor complaining about Obamacare? It's not accurate. It doesn't make sense, the language doesn't have any meaning.
>New Sun / long sun / some sun
Language has differences from ours
>Edgar has eight different words / categories for "large, imposing war horse"
>He has two words which translate to "giant sea monsters of faction A" and "giant sea monsters of faction B" and it's not clear whether factions are defined by their political beliefs or origin, whether faction B is mostly mythology or superstition, or whether faction B is actually a single individual
>Edgar doesn't bother to differentiate between interplanetary space ships and a large boat with more than three sails
>he gets a job in a hospital and explains how he went to leech school and already knows a lot about leeches
tl;dr language is different from ours and suggests that the world actually progressed according to different rules and is not literally the exact same as our world.
Mistborn trilogy doesn't progress far enough to devolve into liberal social policies, that's why it's self-contained and cohesive and not jarring.

Hello /lit/, I just finished pic related, and wanted to know if the rest of the series is worth reading.
It was an interesting read, but didn't totally engross me. I just wanted to know if it was something like Dune in the sense that the first book is the best, and the story just tapers off from there.

If this is so much like classical literature then why don't just read classical literature?

The part where he talks about how experiencing the world lessens our ideal archetype of pleasure is one of the best things I've read in literature

First is a screenshot from my "hentai quotes, no context" folder. The manga in question is Seijo no Kenshin The Saint's Devotion Ch. 1.
The statue on the bottom right is part of the cover of the Shadow of the Torturer.
Nvm. I am retarded.

The manga is Fire Punch, and the statue is of emperor Constantine.

I saw it's 31st in the top 100 list but the Goodreads reviews are not stellar and I haven't read fantasy in a long time. Is Sam Hyde right?

Shadow of the Torturer felt to me to be very meandering after the main character is exiled. Even beforehand it was “he goes to this place, talks to this guy, then leaves and it’s never mentioned again.”

I’ve seen a lot of people praise the series on here, and I’m thinking of giving it another chance. What are some reasons you like the book(s) and what did you get out of them?

About 2/3rds through the first book and I'm confused. After Severian leaves the Citadel it's just a series of vignettes that seem to have some deeper meaning that it's impenetrable? When does it make sense?

None of you mentioned that 50% of BOTNS is Severian being creepy with women, don't really care about his pervy thoughts lads.

Lame.

>But it gets good after you read it three times!
It should be good on first read.
>But muh Catholicism
That's what and why I read the Bible, anon.
>Thus my friend Roche spoke to Drotte
Gay.

Do people really compare this to LOTR?
