It's /lit/, not /books/ so really we don't necesarily "look down" on YA fiction or genre fiction (though I personally do), it's just that it doesn't belong on this board. /mu/ is just full of a bunch of douches, that's why they don't like top40 being posted there (even though it might be shit, it's still "music"). Conversely, less impressive books and works (or not even less impressive, just less important - more gauged for entertainment) don't belong here as it's for "literature."


Take a look at the Bloom's Western Canon, and the modern library list and so on.

Hmmm, interesting take, but I'm not entirely sure that manual labor is so much an "art," but rather a necessary part of social life in order to get goods and sustain ourselves. As far as the hamburger thing goes (and I know you're meaning to be satirical with this, but) we do have far too many hamburgers. We could certainly use a lot less hamburgers and a lot more less generic food. Why would we not want to work at expanding our food source and get out of the "loop of over-influence?"
