Which writer do you enjoy reading the most? Which writer could write about their morning bowel movement and you'd still enjoy reading about it?

If all I care about is prose, all other factors be damned. What should I read?

The long hair and his self-consciousness about it, the sexual and romantic problems he had, the general passivity of his personality, the many stories he wrote from girls/women's POVs. Maybe he was trans, or at least uncomfortable with being male.

I've been living in the Southwest for a couple months now and the heat is hindering my reading.

The sweat from my forehead slides into my eyes and it is very uncomfortable to have to wipe my forehead every few minutes.

Has anyone here had similar problems while reading?
Give me one good reason I should not use a bandanna like DFW did.

Why are people so ignorant about literature and the people who write it?

What are some good self-help books? Not the new age-y spiritual Oprah shit, is there anything more authentic? I want to read something that will help motivate me towards self-improvement. Could either by fiction or non-fiction.

And but so hello, everyone, I'm new here(1). Willikers! My name is David but you can call me David Foster Wallace. Haha, as you can see, I'm a good deal more edgy than the prototypical poster here. That's why I find myself here, to mix 'n' mingle with other edgelors. I'm 46 years old(2). I enjoy reading Tom Clancy alone(3). Clancy is one of my favorite authors. Because it's edgy for an acclaimed author to read what are seen as lowest-common-denominator action novels. And so but with any sort of luck at all, I might meet some other sap who's just as edgy or even edgier than me, but so please respond.

Marijuana is literally evil and anyone who uses drugs is a terrible person who needs serious help(4). Until next time.

And but so,

David Foster Wallace

1 "New" here meaning not "new" in the general sense, as if I were as the adage goes "born yesterday", but rather, that I am a newcomer(a) on this asynchronous anonymized online messageboard.
a "Newfag" in the local parlance; part of the "board culture" includes, strangely enough, appending various adjectives with "fag" for no apparent purpose.

2 People have told me I'm "mature" given my age.

3 I live a lonely, dark, depressed existence fueled by my existential angst and misunderstood genius, but so if this upsets you, there's really nothing more to say.

4 This sentence serves as an example of me being edgy, in case you weren't already convinced.

I know Infinite Jest is one of /lit/s favorite books, but what is /lit/s opinion on its author? To be honest, I found myself starting to hate the man and his work (despite never having read a word of his) simply because of the way he looks in all his photos: like a smug cocky hipster upper-middle-class whiteboy. But then I read his bio and some quotes and now I think better of him. He wasn't arrogant or smug, he was intelligent and deeply troubled.

Also, why is Infinite Jest so great?
