Most awkward experience I've had are those times when you grab too many books, and only end up reading three or four of them, and then when you go to return them, the librarian that you're friendly with sees an interesting title and asks you "How was it?"

...
........
................"It was good"

When can I call myself a writer?

This old guy walks into the motel where I work. Average looking old man,
nothing that off about him. I noticed he had a nice hairline for a man his age.
(probably early sixties) I tend to pay special attention to that sort of thing
because mine is receeding prematurely, and I like to try and get a good idea
of how much I will have later in life. Working in a motel you see an awful lot
of people all different ages. Some with so much hair it's hanging over they're
eyes and others struggling to pull off a comb over. On second thought no one
can pull off a comb over.
Anyway, this old man walks in. He's got his chin up and when he turns his
head the side you can see the tubes coming out of his ears that make up his
hearing aid.
Well it must have not been working that well because he came in screaming.
"CAN I MAKE A PHONE CALL FROM THE FRONT DESK?" the old man
struggled to hear himself.
"I'VE GOT TO ARRANGE A VERY IMPORTANT MEETING BETWEEN ME
AND AN OLD FRIEND OF MINE."

People come in wanting to do this all the time. I can't imagine ever turning
someone down. I mean, here's the phone and I'm not on it. Go ahead.
Simple as that. Then you've got the bigshots out there wanting to prove
they've got money or something who insist on paying you for
being so "generous". And that's a big fucking air quote. Me letting you use
the phone is by no means comparable to CPR or the Heimlich, or any other
important thing.
