- convert your pdf to a file format you could edit on your computer (rtf, doc, docx etc.)
- the hard part: manually check&edit the converted file
- use Calibre to finally convert to epub/mobi; check the result if it's okay, edit metadata.

PDFS SUCK AS E-BOOKS AND YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO AUTOMAGICALLY CONVERT THEM TO E-BOOK FORMATS. EVER. EVERYTIME YOU'LL END UP PROOFREADING AND CORRECTING THEM BY HAND. AVOID PDFS, DO NOT COLLECT THEM AS YOUR E-BOOK LIBRARY.

The Sirens of Titan is an eye-opener for a fourteen year old.

Candide is great for people of a similar age, and it's pretty much the original buddy comedy.
